George Soros is famous for using his multi-billion dollar fortune to fund the political campaigns of progressive Democrats that many people feel have been responsible for the increase in crime, homelessness, and lawlessness in big cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, and others. Now he’s in the headlines for something else. Claiming the world “may not survive” Vladimir Putin’s invasion and war in Ukraine.

The 91-year-old survivor of the Holocaust is at the 2022 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The event organizers gave him a microphone to tell those gathered about his perceptions of the danger of not defeating Putin quickly. According to Soros, “a third world war” may already be underway.

Wow, that’s comforting. The rich old man, whom many believe is someone who hates capitalism and is a fan of communism, was just getting warmed up.

“Even when the fighting stops, as it eventually must, the situation will never revert” to where it was before. Other issues that concern all of humanity — fighting pandemics and climate change, avoiding nuclear war, maintaining global institutions — have had to take a back seat to that struggle. That’s why I say civilization may not survive.”

Soros said something at the event that even people who despise him will agree with.  “Today, China and Russia present the greatest threat to open society.”

Soros isn’t a fan of Putin and Xi Jinping of China.

“They rule by intimidation, and as a consequence they make mind-boggling mistakes.”

Soros is not what you would commonly refer to as an “uplifting,” “inspiring,” or “jovial” person. He’s not on speed dial for Tony Robbin’s team of bookers.  But amid his message of gloom and doom, he took a break long enough to commend Ukraine for the fight they are putting up.

“I think Ukraine today is rendering a tremendous service to Europe and to the western world and to open society and our survival because they are fighting our fight. They have a really good chance of winning…[W]e must give them all the support that they ask for.”
