It looks like the team in charge of casting for The Bachelor may have to re-visit their questionnaire, and ask a couple more direct questions for future seasons.
Colton Underwood, who was The Bachelor in season 23, announced on GMA Wednesday that he is gay. In a taped interview, he told Robin Roberts “I’ve ran from myself for a long time. I’ve hated myself for a long time. I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know. I’m still nervous. It’s been a journey for sure.
“I’m emotional, but I’m emotional in such a good, happy, positive way. I’m the happiest and healthiest that I’ve ever been in my life, and that means the world to me.”
Underwood was a mainstay on The Bachelor franchise, appearing in “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise.” He also dated former Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman for a year.
In a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight, Underwood broached the subject of how he questioned his sexuality throughout his life. “I’m straight and I’m very, very attracted to Cassie and women — but it would have been OK if it would have been the other way too.”
The Cassie he is referring to is Cassie Randolph, the contestant he selected in the finale of his season of “The Bachelor.” They continued to date up until May, but Randolph then filed a restraining order against Underwood, accusing him of putting a tracking device on her car, and according to a report in People, sending her a text message where he pretended to be a stalker.
The creepy behavior by Underwood also allegedly included driving to Randolph’s apartment and her parent’s home in Huntington Beach, California in the middle of the night.
Underwood apologized to Underwood on GMA. “I would like to say sorry for how things ended. I messed up. I made a lot of bad choices. I wish that I would’ve been courageous enough to fix myself before breaking anyone else.”
