Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania known for his flamboyant comments and shorts-and-sweatshirt attire, took a swipe at California Governor Gavin Newsom for not admitting he is running for President.

Speaking to NBC News during a speech event in Iowa, Fetterman acknowledged that Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is running for President but also mocked Gavin Newsom for engaging in presidential campaign behavior while refusing to say if he intends to run against President Joe Biden.

“There are two additional Democrats running for Pennsylvania, excuse me, running for president right now,” Fetterman said, “One is a congressman from Minnesota, the other one is the governor of California, but only one has the guts to announce it.”

Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy made a similar comment regarding Newsom’s presence in Iowa, a key state on the campaign trail. “The man is running for president, doing it and doing it in disguise, doing it with a track record at a state that is more disastrous by the day,” he quipped.

Strangely, Biden dispatched Newsom to attend the second GOP primary debate in September, acting as a stand-in for the White House. Newsom spoke to several news channels at the event but denied every time that he was looking to become the Democratic nominee in ‘24.

Then, Newsom traveled to China to meet with President Xi Jinping, during which he was treated to a toboggan ride, a tour of the Great Wall of China, and a game of basketball where he knocked over a small child.

Now, Xi and thousands of other top officials from China and 20 other Pacific Rim countries are descending upon San Francisco to have the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) next week. To prepare, the authorities are clearing away the tent encampments that line the city’s streets in order to protect the dignitaries from the rampant homeless and drug epidemic that is afflicting much of the Californian landscape.

With all of these stumping events and meetings, especially with the leader of the other contender for the title of world superpower, one has to ask if Fetterman isn’t onto something with his characterizations.
