Sen. John Fetterman has made headlines in Pennsylvania and beyond for his unconventional approach to politics. He’s made even more headlines for his questionable health and ability to continue serving as senator after going through some serious health issues, starting with a stroke back in May 2022.

In the most recent event, the Pennsylvania senator checked himself in to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, “to receive treatment for clinical depression,” according to Chief of staff, Adam Jentleson.

In a statement released on Thursday, Jentleson said “On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”

Fetterman’s wife, Gisele, posted a tweet expressing how she was “so proud of him for asking for help.”

Although there is no doubt that checking in on ones mental health should be an upmost priority, it is also fair to ask that while he aims to receive the full recovery he deserves, who’s sitting in his chair, serving Pennsylvania citizens?

It was only last week that Fetterman checked himself into a hospital in Washington for symptoms of “lightheadedness.” He remained in the facility overnight for observation.

Some have questioned whether Fetterman’s health concerns make him unfit to continue serving as a senator, with some even calling for his resignation. However, Fetterman has stated that he is committed to his work and will continue to serve if he is able.

Either way, we commend the senator for putting his mental health first and wish him a swift and seamless recovery. We’ll see how the story pans out as it develops.
