Downdetector received over 500,000 reports as of 10:30 a.m. No explanation has been provided for the outages, but a Meta spokesperson announced via X (which still works) that the company is looking into the disruptions.

This was met with mockery from the rival social media site X and its owner Elon Musk.

The failure echoes a mass outage reported by AT&T, T-Mobile, and other major cell providers late last month, which left many customers unable to make calls, send texts, or contact emergency services for nearly 24 hours. AT&T has since attributed the error to a software glitch and offered a $5 credit to affected customers as an apology.
