Users on Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta programs reported mass outages on Tuesday morning, leaving hundreds of thousands of users around the world without social media access ahead of Super Tuesday voting.
According to outage tracking site Downdetector, Facebook, Messenger, Threads, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other affiliate platforms around 10:00 a.m. ET, primarily in large metro areas across the United States. Additional issues were reported in Asia and Europe, and the problem has yet to be resolved.
Facebook users report being logged out with no ability to sign back in, and Instagram produces a “failure to load” message.

Downdetector received over 500,000 reports as of 10:30 a.m. No explanation has been provided for the outages, but a Meta spokesperson announced via X (which still works) that the company is looking into the disruptions.

The failure echoes a mass outage reported by AT&T, T-Mobile, and other major cell providers late last month, which left many customers unable to make calls, send texts, or contact emergency services for nearly 24 hours. AT&T has since attributed the error to a software glitch and offered a $5 credit to affected customers as an apology.
