A new report in the Sunday Times of London claims Prince Charles personally accepted suitcases and shopping bags that contained over $3 million in cash from a controversial Qatari politician.
You might be saying to yourself, “I’ve seen plenty of images of Charles, he doesn’t seem like he’d have enough strength to carry a man purse, let alone multiple suitcases stuffed with cash,” but the story said Charles took the cash on multiple occasions between 2011 and 2015.
Here’s a quote from one of Prince Charles’ former advisers.
“Everyone felt very uncomfortable about the situation.” The “only thing we could do was to count the money and make a mutual record of what we’d done. And then call the bank.”
Awkward.
Here’s apparently how the transfers went down. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani handed over the cash to the future king in three separate deliveries during secret meetings at Clarence House, which is the official London residence of Prince Charles.
The money was stuffed in duffel bags, a suitcase and fancy shopping bags from the Fortnum & Mason store. The story claimed the money was deposited into the PWCF, the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund.
There has been speculation and much talk in the UK that there was a “cash-for-access culture” with Charles. It was recently revealed he had a longtime aide who was booked from his role at the charity after being accused of using his status to receive a “golden visa” from a billionaire from Saudi Arabia.
