Say this about Elon Musk; there’s never been a human who’s had a year as he has, and Time Magazine noticed, naming the Tesla CEO and richest person in the world the “Person of the Year” for 2021.

Here’s what editor-in-chief- Edward Felsenthal had to say about the fairly simple decision to give Musk this distinction.

“Person of the Year is a marker of influence, and few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth too.  In 2021, Musk emerged not just as the world’s richest person but also as perhaps the richest example of a massive shift in our society.”

Yeah, it’s kind of hard to argue with that.

Musks’s year has been so eventful and busy; he might need the rest of December just to update his Linkedin page.

On top of becoming the richest person in the world thanks to the performance of Tesla stock and flirting with a net worth of $300 billion for part of the year, Musk had a couple of other companies he runs do well too.

SpaceX launched the first-ever mission to Earth’s orbit with a rocket filled with tourists and no trained astronauts.

Time’s top editor Felsenthal had an interesting way of describing what he called Musk’s “persona” in the story in the magazine. He described it as a “blunt instrument that often seems to revel in division and aggressive mockery.”  He must follow Musk on Twitter.

Interesting fun fact about Time Magazine; it is owned by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, who purchased it from Meredith Corporation.

Keep in mind, being selected as “Person of the Year” is not always based on positive performance.  Adolph Hitler had the distinction from the magazine back in 1938.
