Billionaire Elon Musk confirmed on Wednesday that he will not make financial contributions to either President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump during their 2024 presidential campaigns, settling rumors that he was considering a partnership with Trump earlier this week.

Musk, who just two days ago lost the distinction of “world’s richest person” to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has been a longtime critic of the Biden administration particularly on the issues of economics and immigration. According to sources who spoke with The New York Times, Musk finally had a sit-down with Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday. The outlet did not indicate what the two discussed, but it noted that Trump’s camp is “urgently seeking a cash infusion” ahead of the upcoming general election.

However, shortly after the Times report was published, Musk took to X to clarify his position on the 2024 election.

“Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President,” Musk wrote in an X post.

Though critical of Biden, Musk has also had a fair number of complaints about Trump during his administration, particularly over their disagreements on climate change policies. However, these objections pale in comparison to his insinuations that Biden is attempting to “create a permanent majority – a one-party state” by allowing illegal immigrants to take over the country.

While promising to stay out of the political side of the presidential race, Musk did not comment on rumors that he could chip in funding for Trump’s growing legal bills. However, given Musk’s pledge for neutrality, this outcome also seems unlikely.
