Two months after CNN fired their primetime TV host and journalist, Don Lemon hinted the network let him go because he refused to platform “liars’ on his show.

“I don’t believe in platforming liars and bigots, insurrectionists and election deniers and putting them on the same footing as people who are telling the truth; people who are fighting for what’s right, people who are abiding by the constitution,” Lemon told ABC24 reporters in his first interview since being let go from the news network. “I think that would be a dereliction of journalistic duty to do those sorts of things.”

“I have a responsibility — not only as a journalist but as an American — to tell the truth and to abide by the promises of the Constitution” Lemon claimed.

The 57-year-old continued: “because the Constitution says, ‘a more perfect union’ — not ‘a perfect union.’ I’m not a perfect person. No one is. In order to fulfill the promise of the Constitution, we have to stand up for what is right. We have to stand up for the truth.”

Upon his firing, Lemon had taken his thoughts onto Twitter, claiming that he had no indication that he “would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network,” to which he added “it is clear that there are some larger issues at play.”

CNN responded to Lemon’s claims denying the idea that he was not given a formal notice: “Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

However, CNN gave no reason as to why they were firing Lemon. Our guess is his recent controversial and biased reporting as well as his behavior in the workplace amongst his colleagues as well as on air. In February, he made sexist comments about Republican presidential nominee Nikki Haley and the years women are “in their prime.”

Lemon issued a backhanded apology and spent several days off of the air. Soon after, the news of his departure was made.
