There was a time not that long ago when big corporations were primarily interested in profits. Revenue. Winning. Being politically correct and pandering have superseded those old motivational forces for many companies, but not ExxonMobil.

The energy giant based in Houston has decided to keep social and political issues outside of their business interests and said they would ban corporate offices from flying “external position flags” during pride month in June.

That includes a rainbow-colored LGBTQ-rights flag and Black Lives Matter flags, among others. A report in Bloomberg said the move has caused a few employees in the home office to say they will not represent the company at the annual Pride Parade in June in Houston.

It’s the opposite move of the Walt Disney Company, which takes an extreme political stance for liberal causes and recently threw themselves in the middle of a bill in Florida that led to the state repealing their special tax and governing arrangement for Disney World that Walt Disney himself negotiated 50 years ago.

ExxonMobil said in a statement that they still support diversity and employee resource groups, and they will permit a flag representing an LGBTQ employees’ group to be flown, but it can’t display the Exxon corporate logo.

A corporate decision based on common sense.  Let’s hope they start making a comeback.
