According to recently obtained documents, when Jeffrey Epstein was admitted to Manhattan jail, he disclosed during a health screening that he had engaged in sexual activity with over 10 women in the past five years and had previously received treatment for chlamydia.

The Associated Press received approximately 4,000 pages of documents through a Freedom of Information Act request, shedding light on the disgraced billionaire’s physical and mental condition prior to his “suicide” in August 2019, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

The extensive paperwork provides details of Epstein’s deteriorating health, including ailments such as sleep apnea, constipation, hypertension, lower back pain and prediabetes.

Epstein, who faced charges related to the trafficking of minors in Florida and New York, was incarcerated at the federal jail in Manhattan on July 6, 2019.

During his initial weeks in custody, Epstein was deprived of his sleep apnea breathing machine, and his cell’s toilet malfunctioned. Jail officials documented his agitation and inability to sleep, observing him sitting in the corner of his cell, trying to muffle the persistent sound of the running toilet by covering his ears.

Epstein admitted struggling to adapt to life in jail and referred to himself as a “coward.” Nevertheless, he made attempts to improve his circumstances, such as signing up for Kosher meals and requesting permission to exercise outdoors.

However, after his bail request was denied by a judge in late July 2019, Epstein made a failed suicide attempt. He was discovered on the floor of his cell with a bedsheet strip tied around his neck, resulting in minor scrapes and bruises that did not require hospitalization.

Following the incident, Epstein was placed on suicide watch and underwent psychiatric evaluation.

During a conversation with a jail psychologist, Epstein denied being suicidal, claiming to have a “wonderful life” and considering it “crazy” to end it.

According to jail logs, guards observed Epstein sitting at the edge of his bed lost in thought, as well as sitting with his head against the wall.

The jail’s chief psychologist sent an email requesting that Epstein be moved to a different cell due to the broken toilet in his current cell.

On the night before Epstein’s suicide, he excused himself from a meeting with his lawyers to make a phone call to his deceased mother, who had been dead for 15 years. This incident occurred shortly after a judge unsealed approximately 2,000 pages of documents related to a sexual abuse lawsuit against Epstein.

Officials noted that the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison likely contributed to Epstein’s decision to take his own life.

Prosecutors alleged that the guards assigned to monitor Epstein on the night of his death, Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, were seated at their desks just 15 feet away from his cell but were preoccupied with online furniture and motorcycle shopping. During a two-hour period, it appeared that both guards had fallen asleep.
