California Gov. Gavin Newsom is working on restricting gun ownership using our very own Constitution. Reason Magazine reports that the governor is also interested in adding a new amendment as well – how novel.

The amendment would raise the purchasing age for guns from 18 to 21, they would require a universal background check which is already a standard when any American is interested in attaining a concealed weapons license, create “reasonable” waiting times for all gun buys and – and this is the radical part – ban all assault rifles.

Some of these ideas make sense but baking them in with assault rifle bans is where questions arise. “Those weapons of war, our founding fathers never foresaw,” says the text of the proposed amendment.

Newsom has been making an interesting national play as of late, making it difficult to really understand what he has up his sleeve. Perhaps he’s hoping President Joe Biden will falter so badly that he could swoop in and take the Democratic nomination.

Being Pelosi’s nephew has benefits, certainly garnering the goodwill of the elite establishment wing of the party, unlike declared candidates Marianne Williamson or Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In July of last year, Newsom released a 6-figure ad buy in Florida and across Fox News directly criticizing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. “I urge all of you living in Florida, freedom is under attack in your state, your Republican leaders are banning books and making it harder to vote.” He ended the ad with an appeal for Floridians to move to the Golden state as they’ve been bleeding population as of late.

Tied in with the proposed gun bans, Newsom made another video expected to make national waves. Say what you will about Newsom, the guy knows how to get attention. His tweet announcing the constitution-bending efforts garnered 12 million views.

Do not expect this election to be set in stone yet. Something is in the water, and we’ll be watching it for you.
