Midterm elections are just one away. A record-breaking number of more than 34 million Americans have already cast their ballots. Right now, many vital races still show no clear winner. Many hot-button issues are at the center of this year’s election, including inflation, abortion rights, immigration, and healthcare.
If you’re feeling intense emotions around this year’s election, you’re not the only one. There is a way to deal with your “Election Anxiety.” Psychology Today suggests practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness is the “awareness that arises from paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally. It is believed mindfulness can help free you from unhelpful biases.
The New York Times lists other actions you may consider to relieve your “Election Anxiety.” First, try interrupting yourself whenever you feel anxious, try going for a walk, or call a friend. Doctors say interrupting yourself can shift your mental state.
You can also try connecting with nature. Research shows that spending time outdoors can cause meaningful improvements in mental health. Staying is another way to get rid of anxiety. Tackling a home project is an excellent way to keep busy. Whatever you do, doctors suggest lots of movement and remember accepting the results of an election does not mean you’re giving up.
