The NCAA’s new policy regarding name, image and likeness — college athletes can now make money via endorsements—is showing that the athletic talent sometimes can be secondary to popularity.

Hip-hop artist Master P, himself a very good basketball player, has seen his son Hercy become a millionaire largely due to the NCAA rule shift – and now is the highest-paid (soon-to-be) college player.

Hercy Miller, who played in high school at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis and is headed to Tennessee State, on Friday signed a $2 million deal with Web Apps America on Friday, according to TMZ Sports and Front Office Sports.

Web Apps America, involved with internet/mobile/software work, will work with Hercy Miller in support of HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) in the United States.

“It’s incredible,” Master P told TMZ Sports. “This is gonna change the way college athletes want to stay in school.”

Master P, aka Percy Miller, played two NBA preseasons with the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors. His brother Romeo played college basketball at USC and he has another son, Mercy.

With millions of dollars in the bank as a teenager, Hercy Miller said he would share in the spoils.

“I learned from my dad, I’m gonna start off by giving back to the community and everyone around me. I have a camp July 21,” he told TMZ. “I’m giving back to the kids. Giving school supplies.”

He also plans to buy himself a Tesla, he said.

Hercy Miller, listed at 6 feet 3 and 160 pounds as he finished high school, was rated a three-star recruit, the fifth-ranked prospect in the state.

He reportedly entertained offers from USC, UCLA, LSU, Missouri and others.
