Ryan Girdusky, a conservative commentator, has been banned from CNN following a controversial comment directed at journalist Mehdi Hasan during a heated panel discussion on Monday night. During the tense exchange on CNN’s “NewsNight,” Hasan compared former President Donald Trump’s weekend rally at Madison Square Garden to the neo-Nazi rally held there in 1939, also acknowledging the accusations of anti-semitism leveled against him in the past.

“I’m a supporter of the Palestinians, I’m used to it,” Hasan said.

“I hope your beeper doesn’t go off,” Girdusky quipped, referencing the covert Israeli bombing that eliminated Hezbollah members in Lebanon last month.

The comment was immediately condemned by Hasan and the show’s host, Abby Phillip, with the other panelsits accusing Girdusky of threatening violence against the Muslim journlist.

In a statement circulated on Tuesday, CNN confirmed that has been banned from further network appearances. CNN stated that there is “zero room for racism or bigotry,” emphasizing their commitment to fostering civil and thoughtful discussions.

“We aim to foster thoughtful conversations and debate including between people who profoundly disagree with each other in order to explore important issues and promote mutual understanding,” the network sdia. “But we will not allow guests to be demeaned or for the line of civility to be crossed.”

Despite apologizing, Girdusky defended his comment as a ‘joke’ and criticized CNN’s decision, claiming a double standard in their treatment of different political views.

“You can stay on CNN if you falsely call every Republican a Nazi and have taken money from Qatar-funded media. Apparently you can’t go on CNN if you make a joke,” he wrote on social media. “I’m glad America gets to see what CNN stands for.”
