In case you missed it, CEO of NBCUniversal Jeff Shell is leaving the company “effective immediately” after an investigation began looking into “inappropriate conduct,” according to media company owner Comcast’s announcement this past Sunday.

His last day as CEO was Sunday.

There were no specificities shared as to HOW he violated company policy, however, Shell mentioned in a statement that he had an “inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company.”

In a joint statement sent to Comcast and NBCUniversal employees, CEO Brian L. Roberts and President Mike Cavanagh expressed their disappointment in needing to share this information.

“We built this company on a culture of integrity,” they both said. “Nothing is more important than how we treat each other. You should count on your leaders to create a safe and respectful workplace. When our principles and policies are violated, we will always move quickly to take appropriate action, as we have done here.”

“I’m truly sorry I let my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues down,” Shell said in his statement on Sunday.

As CEO, Shell was responsible for overseeing entertainment and news asset portfolios including Universal Pictures film studio, NBC News, and MSNBC, as well as Bravo, E! cable channels.

Shell was named successor after NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke back in late 2019, fully stepping into the role in January 202. Previously, he was chairman of the company’s film and entertainment unit.

According to Comcast, the investigation was led by outside legal counsel. Comcast owns NBCUniversal, which is the parent company of NBC News.
