Can we all agree that Buffalo, NY has had a ROUGH few months? From intense winter storms to grocery store shootings, to their football team’s wide receiver almost dying on the field, the city of Buffalo can’t seem to stay off national headlines.
Buffalo was put on a high alert this morning after police were called to Nichols School Friday morning for reports of an active shooter.
Nichols School is a private high school on Amherst Street and Colvin Avenue, across Delaware Park. Although no evidence of an active threat has been found, the school was placed on immediate lockdown as a precaution.
With assistance from NFTA police and the Department of Homeland Security, the school was cleared a couple of hours later.
Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said, “Authorities are completing their check of the school with K-9 officers doing a sweep of the building.” DeGeorge added, “At this time, police report there is no evidence of an active threat.”
According to Buffalo Police, three other schools in New York received similar calls. These schools were in Batavia, Steuben County and somewhere downstate, according to Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, who provided an update Friday morning.
Buffalo police are working with New York State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as they continue investigating. No arrests have been made.
As of now, Nichols’ winter semi-formal on Friday night is still scheduled.
