On Thursday, the House Rules Committee announced that it will be deciding on a resolution next week that will formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden and the “culture of corruption” in his family.

“It is the legislative branch’s responsibility to assert our responsibility,” said Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY). “Without question there are issues of impropriety, and they have to be confronted.”

Republicans released the text of the resolution that will formally approve their impeachment investigation into accusations of corruption in the business dealings of the Biden family. Republicans are expected to have a floor vote next week and the Rules Committee will be voting to push it forward on Tuesday.

The Biden administration has brushed off the resolution as a “baseless stunt.” Democrats in the House consider the inquiry a failed project, having failed to produce evidence of alleged corruption crimes despite months of investigation. Republicans respond by saying that the Biden administration has repeatedly obstructed the production of subpoenaed documents.

The White House claims that there has been no obstruction, and that it has handed over enough documentation.

“We have to vote for an inquiry to get the information that’s being subpoenaed,” Rep. Don Bacon (R-NY) said. “He’s refusing to hand over documents right now, saying we don’t have a formal impeachment inquiry because we didn’t vote for it. Which means we’ve got to vote for an inquiry because documents are being requested.” Bacon had previously said he was not going to support the impeachment effort, but now he said he will vote in favor of the resolution. Many other moderate Republicans that were hesitant to support the effort in the summer are now ready to throw their force behind it.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden was federally indicted on nine new tax evasion charges, which has proved to be a boon for the Republican’s cause.

“This baseless stunt is not rooted in facts or reality but in extreme House Republicans’ shameless desire to abuse their power to smear President Biden,” White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations Ian Sams said in a statement. “Fox News already reported that the only reason they’re having this vote is to ‘put a GOP win on the table for the base,’ which is sad, pathetic, and a waste of everyone’s time.”

In July, former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) stated the House was soon going to be in possession of enough evidence to launch an impeachment inquiry into the corruption of the President and his son, Hunter Biden. The impeachment was officially launched in September 2023.

The cause for the impeachment inquiry concerns phone calls and bank records that allegedly prove that the President and his son, Hunter Biden, were involved in foreign corruption and bribery, among other crimes. Furthermore, the inquiry has compiled evidence dredged up in previous hearings, such as testimony from an IRS whistleblower that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had legally meddled in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax fraud.
