Brendan Carr, the Commissioner for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), shared a letter of dissent he filed against his own agency in the belief that it was taking unjust orders from the Biden administration to persecute Elon Musk.

Serial entrepreneur Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla, has been highly favored by the American government in the past, forming deals for NASA to use his rockets, the Pentagon to use his satellites, and the Energy and Transportation departments to use his electric vehicle charging stations.

However, when Musk purchased Twitter with the goal of turning it into a haven for uncensored speech, that all began to change. As Carr explains, citing a press conference at the White House in November 2022, Biden gave his agencies “a greenlight to go after him” by saying Musk “worth being looked at.” Carr claims the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the National Labor Relations Board, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and the Fish and Wildlife Service have all launched investigations into Musk or his businesses since then.

Carr notes that now his agency is adding itself to the list of agencies engaging in what he refers to as “regulatory harassment.” Specifically, the FCC revoked a 2020 award of $885 million to Starlink, given to the Musk-owned satellite company after he agreed to provide high speed internet to over 640,000 rural homes and businesses. Carr strongly criticized this move in his letter of dissent, calling it a baseless punishment that leaves all of those homes and businesses with nothing. “The Biden Administration is choosing to prioritize its political and ideological goals at the expense of connecting Americans,” he said in conclusion.

“It is a decision that cannot be explained by an objective application of law, facts, or policy,” Carr said in a follow-up X post.

Elon Musk’s mother Maye Musk took to X to blast the report. “I am the mother of @elonmusk,” She wrote. “His goal is to make this world a better place. @POTUS wants to stop him. Have you any idea how furious I am? People in other countries are proud of Elon and do not understand the US President’s motive. Please tell me how I should answer them.”
