The Biden administration is being heavily criticized after the White House issued a long overdue report on Thursday, explaining its handling on the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The report immediately defends Biden’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan, claiming it was the “right thing for the country,” shifting the blame towards Trump’s previous administration.
“President Biden’s choices for how to execute a withdrawal from Afghanistan were severely constrained by conditions created by his predecessor. When President Trump took office in 2017, there were more than 10,000 troops in Afghanistan. Eighteen months later, after introducing more than 3,000 additional troops just to maintain the stalemate, President Trump ordered direct talks with the Taliban without consulting with our allies and partners or allowing the Afghan government at the negotiating table,” the report stated.
Responses from government officials and American citizens erupted on Twitter as they expressed their concerns with the report:
FYI: Your being Lied to about Ukraine just like you were lied to about Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Afghanistan for 20 years. And once again the American people fall for it. https://t.co/b8Fk4Nliqh

The Afghanistan collapse happened under Biden’s watch because he rejected our conditions-based approach.
Instead of taking responsibility, he’s trying to pass the buck with a dishonest report. pic.twitter.com/ud0LkY3nss

US – White House states leaving 3.5 million pieces of equipment worth $7 billion in Afghanistan….was normal!

Pres. Biden’s surrender to the Taliban in Afghanistan is especially egregious because it telegraphed to China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran that he intended to pursue peace through weakness—and peace through weakness never works. pic.twitter.com/ZhAUcJzn5i

The @WhiteHouse just blamed President Trump for their botched Afghanistan withdrawal. Let’s set the facts straight:
– 9K Americans were left behind under Biden
– $7B in military equipment was left to terrorists under Biden
– And 13 brave servicemembers died in Kabul under Biden— Sen. Marsha Blackburn (@MarshaBlackburn) April 7, 2023
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, criticized National Security Council spokesman John Kirby Kirby for the comments during his press briefing.
“John Kirby’s comments during today’s White House press briefing were disgraceful and insulting. President Biden made the decision to withdraw and even picked the exact date; he is responsible for the massive failures in planning and execution,” McCaul said. “It is also unfortunate it took my subpoena threat to prompt the administration to finally provide the classified after-action reports from the Afghanistan withdrawal. I look forward to reviewing the report and call upon the administration to declassify as much as possible for the American public.
Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., tweeted Kirby is “utterly detached from reality.”
“13 U.S. servicemembers were killed. Americans were left behind. This admin abandoned our allies to face the wrath of terrorists. The Biden admin is an embarrassment to this nation, to our military, and our allies across the world,” he tweeted.
