On Tuesday’s episode of the PBD Podcast, Patrick was joined by political commentator and podcast host Dave Rubin for a discussion of today’s biggest news stories. Together, they break down RFK’s major threat to the Democrat Party, Tucker Carlson’s takedown of Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s legal troubles, and much, much more.

Here are some of the main takeaways from today’s episode …

1. “He’s One Move Away!” – How Ron DeSantis Can Save His Campaign

Following up on last week’s episode with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Patrick and Dave discussed this weekend’s Turning Point Action Conference. While Ron DeSantis chose not to attend the event in his own home state of Florida, Donald Trump showed up and dominated the TPUSA straw polls. But as Dave sees it, this may not be as much of a misstep as it first appears. There might be a strategy to what DeSantis is doing … but will it pay off at the polls?

The first GOP primary debate is still more than a month away, and the first primary votes won’t even be cast until January, meaning that we’re still “in the pre-game of the pre-game.” Anything can happen in that time, and things will only get more intense. Does that mean DeSantis has time to turn things around and become the new face of the Republican Party?

2. “He’s Lucky They Haven’t Killed Him!” – Democrats are Terrified of RFK

Meanwhile, across the aisle, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is making waves in the Democratic Party with his own presidential run — but the DNC won’t acknowledge his success. RFK poses a major threat to Joe Biden’s re-election…but is he willing to launch a campaign against the party his family helped to build?

According to PBD, RFK is all-in on taking down the corrupt system and avenging his family. With prominent Democrats like Hillary Clinton telling him to step aside, the risk to RFK is high — but maybe that’s what it will take to make him unleash his fire against established Democrats.

3. Tucker: Destroyer of Campaigns

On Friday, Tucker Carlson hosted the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa, and it was clear that he had two jobs that day: moderating the discussion and destroying political campaigns. Both Mike Pence and Asa Hutchinson struggled to answer Tucker’s tough questions, which could spell disaster for their floundering campaigns. PBD and Dave have a question for these “1994 Simpsons Republicans”: why are you even running?

4. “Endless Upsides” – Tucker Carlson’s New Network

At the same time, Tucker Carlson is laying the groundwork for his own media company, setting the stage for a new movement in right-wing media. Twitter is becoming the new platform for free speech, but mainstream media is questioning the millions of views “Tucker on Twitter” has been getting. With Tucker’s new network on the way, Dave and PBD break down the effects this will have on the modern media landscape.

5. “Orange is the New Orange” – Is Donald Trump Headed to Prison?

Donald Trump is preparing for yet another indictment, this time based on charges from January 6th … but Dave wonders if all the criminal prosecutions are just making Trump more popular. Are the Democrats desperately trying to put Trump behind bars, or are they secretly hoping he’ll be the final nominee for the GOP?

The establishment seems eager to see Trump locked up for good … so is there a chance Ron DeSantis knows something we don’t?
