Technology has allowed Americans to get pretty lazy, partly because if you are hungry, you have multiple options to barely leave your couch and still smash 1,000 unhealthy calories anytime you want. Food apps are popular, and if you need further convincing, wait until you find out what the most downloaded app in the world was in 2022.

It’s the McDonald’s app, and according to the fast food industry journal QSR Magazine, it was downloaded over, yes, over, 127 million times last year. That is equal to the population of Mexico, the 10th most populous country in the world, according to Cnet.

Coming in second and third for most downloaded apps in the world were UberEats and DoorDash — which combined just eclipsed 100 million, far off the total alone for Mickey D’s.

Now remember that is just 127 million people who added the app last year; it has been around for eight years, and it has evolved, which has been a big key to its popularity. For instance, in 2021, the first loyalty program was launched through the app.

The big thinkers at the Golden Arches have been smart and strategic, launching multiple promotions in 2022, including the chance to win the McGold card and a prize promotion tied to the World Cup in Qatar.

Americans love McDonald’s a lot — the app was downloaded by more than 40 million people last year, which is more than the combined total of the next three food apps in 2022; Starbucks (13.6 million), Domino’s (10.6 million), and Taco Bell (10.4 million).

Now I know why the first thing you hear when driving through a McDonald’s drive-thru is, “Will you be ordering on your McDonald’s app?  Because the whole world appears that it is.
