“People will forget what you said, they will forget what you have done, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

As leaders this is probably one of the most important aspects of our leadership that we can be reminded of daily.  The hustle and bustle of our family, sport, and professional lives can often cause this concept to be pushed into the shadows of our minds. We must be intentional about bringing it back as often as we can.

Every single one of our people is different.  That’s one of the things that I love about the challenge and the opportunity to lead.  What you say or do to someone will ultimately impact how they feel in that moment.  However if you do or say the same things to someone else it most likely will have a completely different outcome of how they feel from it.

Leadership is dynamic.  I can remember as a coach I had a player that if I went out to the mound and lit him up that would fire him up. That type of communication would focus him in, lock in and execute what he needed to do. Now I had another player that if I went out there and told him in the nicest way that he wasn’t getting the job done and needed to get better his eyes would begin to well up and fight back tears.

It doesn’t matter if you are a CEO, coach, teachers, parent, you need to know your people. No two people are the same. They will remember how you made them feel. As leaders it is our job to know how our words and our actions do that.

Be Courageous. Be the leader God has created you to be.  Until next time…Keep growing…Keep Learning…Keep Leading.
