New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was in attendance at UFC 303 on Saturday after missing his team’s mandatory minicamp while abroad in Egypt.

The former NFL MVP quarterback is facing over $100,000 in fines for missing the entire Jets minicamp earlier this month. Jets star cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner posted on X in support of his teammate.

NFL insider Albert Breer spoke on The Rich Eisen Show about Rodgers’ trip ambiguously, saying, “The best I can answer this right now that I feel solid about is that he is somewhere that they could not excuse and maintain credibility with the rest of the locker room, but would be expected, would not be an out-of-left-field thing for him.”

The insider’s statement has led to speculation that Rodgers may have been on an Ayahuasca retreat. The star football player has openly talked about his experiences taking the psychedelic substance.

Rodgers told Pat McAfee, “For me it just came down to my high school best friend and I having a round of gold and talking about his recent ayahuasca experience.” He says the conversation inspired him to take the substance, which he refers to as a “master plant teacher.”

While many in the NFL and fans may consider Rodgers’ choice of psychedelic use controversial, Ayahuasca is not explicitly banned under the league’s substance-abuse or performance-enhancing drug policies.

Months ago, Rodgers told Tucker Carlson that he considered being the Vice Presidential candidate on the ticket with Robert F. Kennedy Junior.

Kennedy ultimately chose Nicole Shanahan for the role in his campaign.

The Jets are hoping to see Rodgers back healthy for a full season starting in August. In the first game of the 2023 season, he suffered an Achilles tear, and would not return to play in the rest of the season. The Jets will go up against the San Francisco 49ers on September 9 to begin regular season games this year. In their post-NFL-draft power rankings, ESPN has the Jets ranked 17.
