The career path of an entrepreneur is not for everyone.

Most entrepreneurs admit that they knew from a young age they wanted to start their own business and pursue a path that only 16% of Americans have the courage to do.

There are no days off as an entrepreneur. Even on your days off, you’re busy thinking about what your next moves will be and how you can improve.

There is always something going on… but this is the life you chose and most entrepreneurs say they wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world.

As long as you have the will and desire to improve yourself and never stop learning, you can be sure that you are on the road to success.

5 Traits that Make a Great Entrepreneur

To be an entrepreneur requires certain skill sets and traits. Some you’re born with while others are developed over time…

1. Passion

Passion is the fuel to success.

If there is no passion, there is nothing. It’s what keeps most entrepreneurs motivated to keep going and never give up. There has to be something that sets your heart and soul on fire, otherwise, you will likely get burnt out, depressed, or bored.

This is why it’s always important to choose a business that speaks to your soul and is of great interest to you. If you follow a career path that you find enjoyable and thrilling, you will naturally come up with more ideas to be innovative and as a result, successful.

Passionate people don’t do anything half-heartedly. If they’re going, they’re going full speed until they cross the finish line.

Work/life balance? What’s that?

A passionate entrepreneur shows no separation between the creator and his work, meaning they are one. An entrepreneur embraces his or her work as though it is their pride and joy. They love what they do, and it shows.

2. Natural Leader

A great entrepreneur is a leader who shows characteristics of humility, confidence, and enthusiasm.

There are no entrepreneurs in this world who haven’t exhibited the qualities of a great leader. The reason for this is because every successful entrepreneur knows that he or she will need to build a team of fabulous employees who can support his/her vision.

If you have aspirations to build an empire, you most definitely cannot do it alone. You’ll need help and allies. A great entrepreneur needs a team of people who share their vision to achieve whatever it is they put their minds to.

Being an entrepreneur is a very selfless path.

While it may seem “selfish” to be an entrepreneur, it actually requires many “selfless” qualities.

Those who wish to see change in the world must exhibit those qualities first. Entrepreneurs know that they need to be the example they wish to set for their employees. Every box needs to be checked off… Are you supportive? Are you positive? Do you express gratitude to your employees? Do you light the path for your employees to succeed or do you just expect them to figure it out themselves? How are you guiding your employees to achieve success? What kind of feedback are you giving them? How often do you spend time getting to know your employees, building long-lasting relationships, and a team of individuals you can trust?

Entrepreneurs are constantly thinking about their employees, making the career path very selfless and rewarding.

3. Resilience

A great entrepreneur never lets anything get in their way, including their own defeats.

Resilience is the ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger than ever.  Rather than letting failure overcome them, resilient individuals will always find a way to bounce back better than ever before.

A great entrepreneur knows it’s okay to make mistakes and isn’t too hard on themselves. Oftentimes, we hear the most incredible stories of some of the greatest entrepreneurs and public figures who struggled during their life’s journey before making it big. The path is never easy, but if you have the right mindset, it will surely make things much smoother and more enjoyable.

Nikola Tesla said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Never give up. Enjoy the journey as you go. Don’t let your defeats put you down or set you back.

Remind yourself, over and over again, that if you really want to improve you can’t get attached to emotions.

Focus on your goals and don’t let anything (or anyone) get in your way.

4. Open-Mindedness

Those who plan on building an empire know that having an open mind is a MUST.

This tends to come naturally for most successful entrepreneurs, but for those who seem to clash whenever they are exposed to alternative beliefs, ideas, or concepts, it might be a skill they need to build.

Having an open mind is essential for those who plan on building a business beyond limitations.

It can be hard to admit that you aren’t open-minded enough, and even harder to admit to having a close-minded personality, especially if you are stubborn. If you recognize your own weaknesses and act to improve them, it will be the best thing for your long-term growth. Silencing one’s ego is never easy, but if you remind yourself that business is not personal you can re-focus your efforts on improving yourself and your business to achieve new levels of success.

5. Creativity

Everyone is creative. Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

If you don’t think you are creative, it’s highly likely that you simply have not yet discovered your passion.

Some people are creative in the arts, others in mathematics. Everyone has their own area of expertise…

We are all unique individuals who have certain passions and interests.

While a math major might have zero creativity when it comes to the arts, they might be the most creative person in the world when it comes to mathematics.

If you ever hear someone exclaim that some people just “aren’t creative,” run the other way. Not only is that a very “limited” form of thinking, but it’s also very pessimistic and negative. A positive mindset is crucial to success.

Not to be cliche, but if you listen to your heart and pursue whatever it is that sets your soul on fire, you might just discover the next “big thing” and make history with your incredible creation…

Find your niche and capitalize on it. Everyone is gifted in some type of way.
