A federal judge has just given initial approval to a $725 million settlement between Meta and Facebook users after alleging the company had shared the platform’s personal data without proper consent.

If YOU have been a user of Facebook between May 2077 and December 2022 and have lived in the United States during that time, you are eligible to get cash from the settlement. Although it will be a few months before that money starts making its way to your pockets, there is no wait time to submit a claim.

How do you submit a claim? Visit the settlement website and click the “Submit Claim” button at the top of the page.

You must provide your contact information as well as your email, phone number or username associated with the Facebook account you have. File the account you have had the longest if you have multiple accounts.

You then must submit an eligibility check to make sure you have indeed resided in the United States between the time frame, above. You then need to sign the form and indicate your preference of payment. There are multiple forms of payments from bank accounts to PayPal and Venmo.

The deadline to submit the online claim is August 25, 2023 – you can also submit a claim via mail but make sure it’s postmarked by the 25th.

How much you can expect to receive in settlement payment will depend on how many people submit as well as how long you were a Facebook user during the eligibility period. The final approval hearing is scheduled for September 7.
