Earlier this week, the head of the World Health Organization proclaimed that the end of the pandemic is with really.  That would be excellent news for, oh, I don’t know, every human being on the planet.

But not so fast, says China. They either don’t believe the pandemic is over, or they don’t want the pandemic to be over, and they appear to have censored videos on the internet with that messaging so citizens of China can’t hear or read about it.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is the head of WHO, and this is precisely what he said on Wednesday; “we have never been in a better position to end the pandemic. We are not there yet, but the end is in sight.”

According to a report in Bloomberg, two Chinese media outlets, China Newsweek and a digital outlet called Guancha, initially reported on the remarks and posted videos but were removed later in the day.

Chinese internet users are savvy enough to find a way to still communicate about it despite their government trying to prevent them from hearing the message, so it made many people even more suspicious of their government’s motives.

In China, the response to any outbreaks of Covid is essentially like it was in 2020 in the rest of the world – a full-blown overreaction and shutdown.

Cheese leaders try to rationalize their draconian measure by saying it saves lives.  A pseudo-election is coming up in China on October 16, and President Xi Jinping is expected to stay in power for another term.  As that election draws near, areas near the capital in Beijing have been locked down, and residents are being told not to travel domestically.
