President Joe Biden announced on Saturday that the combined defensive forces of the United States and Israel successfully took down “nearly all” the missiles and drones launched at the Jewish state by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a statement issued after a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden reaffirmed “America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel,” condemning the attacks by Iran “and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria, and Iraq.”

My team will engage with their counterparts across the region,” Biden’s statement read. “And we will stay in close touch with Israel’s leaders. And while we have not seen attacks on our forces or facilities today, we will remain vigilant to all threats and will not hesitate to take all necessary action to protect our people.”

As Valuetainment previously reported, Iran launched a swarm of suicide drones, followed by a barrage of missiles, towards Israel in retaliation for a bombing at the Iranian embassy in Syria that eliminated several high-profile members of Iran’s military. Israel did not claim responsibility for the strike, but that is consistent with Israeli operations, leading Iran to threaten retribution.

But while American resources were deployed to assist Israel in a defensive capacity, Biden later clarified on Sunday that the US will not participate in any Israeli counteroffensives against Iran. According to White House National Security spokesman John Kirby, the US remains committed to Israel, but is unwilling to provoke direct conflict with Iran.

“And as the president has said many times, we don’t seek a wider war in the region,” Kirby told  ABC’s “This Week.” “We don’t seek a war with Iran. And I think I will leave it at that.”

Iran has warned of an even more aggressive strike if any retaliatory action is taken, including attacks against the US itself.

In the wake of the Iranian strike, Israel has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations, and the Israeli war cabinet is currently meeting to plan out next steps.
