In a peculiar new nod to the importance of the work-life balance, Gen Zers and Millennials are flaunting their diet coke breaks and the trend is going viral.

Garnering over 14 million views, #dietcokebreak features videos of younger employees stepping out of the office for a much needed “DC” fix. Some TikTok users are claiming to “romanticize the little things” by taking a minute to enjoy a solo Diet Coke or to share one with a co-worker.

The notion of “sharing a Coke” has been a staple of the brand’s advertising history but the corporation hasn’t played a role in the TikTok action, according to a spokesperson from Coca-Cola. Driven primarily from Diet Coking-loving TikTok creators, the videos aren’t just about the beverage but symbolic of a new-found form of “self-care.”

25-year-old Sephora program marketer, Kristen Seninger says she was always a “Diet Coke break girl” far before it became trendy to romanticize the drink on TikTok.

With hundreds of thousands of views, her videos simply document her travels to Chick-fil-A or McDonald’s to grab the fountain drink, often garnished with a squeeze of citrus.

Seninger claims the trend is catching on as it reminds people to embrace the “little things” while allowing young employees to relish in a midday jaunt away from the office or work-from-home setting. She added that creating an afternoon TikTok also makes the pause in the workday more fun.
