Could Anheuser-Busch be a more pathetic cautionary tale for big corporations that want to take a hard turn to be weak and woke? Probably not. The company that got away from simply focusing on selling beer has now found a way to tick off everybody.
And all of this over an unknown goof named Dylan Mulvaney. The brand partnership between Bud Light at the transgender social media enthusiast has not really worked out that well. Multiple reports say sales have tanked after they partnered with Mulvaney, who was born a man but now claims to be a woman.
The head honchos at AB have been in scramble mode for weeks, trying to downplay the marketing disaster as best they could. But all they’ve done now is anger the leftists and the LGBTQ movement. They now demand that Anheuser-Busch show their unwavering public support, or they will lay the smack down with an organized boycott.
Jay Brown works at the Human Rights Campaign, and Brown went nuclear and wrote a letter to AB asking them to go public with a statement that they are big fans of the transgender movement.
Here’s the wording of the demand from Brown.
“In this moment, it is absolutely critical for Anheuser-Busch to stand in solidarity with Dylan and the trans community. However, when faced with anti-LGBTQ+ and transphobic criticism, Anheuser-Busch’s actions demonstrate a profound lack of fortitude in upholding its values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
Okay, he means business. It is not just critical, it is “absolutely critical.” That sounds serious.
Wow, what a mess. And to think, it could have been entirely avoidable if Bud Light had simply done what they used to do — sell beer to people who want to have a cold brew without the side of politics and preaching.
