The population of the world just hit 8 billion.

That’s not surprising, but what is, is how many American cities are listed in the top 10 largest cities on the planet?

Zero.  Zip. None.

The list consists of cities in seven countries; Japan, India, China, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, and Bangladesh.

The largest city in the world is literally the population of four New City’s.  Tokyo is at the top of the list, with a population of over 37 million.

The difference between No. 2 on the list, Delhi, India, and Tokyo is the population of Los Angeles, roughly 8 million people.

Coming in third is the largest city in China, Shanghai, with a population of 26.3 million.

Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mexico City, and Cairo, Egypt, are the next three on the list. All with populations over 20 million.

From seven through ten, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Mumbai, India, Beijing, and Osaka, Japan. Osaka has over 19 million people. So the 10th largest city in the world has more people than the combined populations of New York City, Los Angeles, and Houston.

When it comes to the largest cities in the world in regards to size, in square miles, well, the U.S. dominates.

New York – Newark is number one. Boston – Providence is ranked second, and 4-10 is Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Moscow, Washington, D.C., Philly, and Dallas.
