According to data gathered by Care, families are making sacrifices to afford quality childcare, such as working multiple jobs (28 percent), reducing hours at work (27 percent), moving closer to family (25 percent), going into debt (19 percent), and leaving the workforce (17 percent).

According to Child Care Aware, 16,000 childcare programs closed nationwide between 2020 and 2022. There was also a nine percent decline in licensed providers.

Meanwhile, 51 percent of Americans now live in communities classified as childcare deserts, and 31.7 percent of children under the age of five cannot access a childcare slot, according to Zippia.
