Darrin Bell, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist known for accusing Donald Trump of being a rapist and calling people Nazis for using the word “groomer,” was arrested on Wednesday in Sacramento County on charges related to child pornography.
Bell, 49, was implicated following a tip-off from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, leading to an investigation by the Sacramento Valley Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
Investigators discovered 134 videos of child sexual abuse material linked to Bell’s account, including computer-generated content, marking the first such arrest under new laws criminalizing AI-generated material.

His 2023 graphic memoir “The Talk” detailed his process of educating his sons about racism in the United States following the death of George Floyd.
Bell received the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 2019 for his “beautiful and daring editorial cartoons that took on issues affecting disenfranchised communities, calling out lies, hypocrisy and fraud in the political turmoil surrounding the Trump administration.”
