President Joe Biden began his three-day Pennsylvania campaign in Scranton on Tuesday, calling for higher taxes on the rich and painting Donald Trump as an elitist with no concept of the plight of the common man.

Biden also visited his childhood home, another homage to his so-called “working-class” roots. He spent the day talking about economics and wages for the poor, trying to reground the debate on the subject of labor.

His theme was “Tax Fairness for All Americans,” written on a banner behind him as he spoke. Biden also proposed a 25 percent minimum tax rate for billionaires, describing taxes as “how we invest in the country.”

In his speech, he criticized Trump and the Republicans for trying to repeal Obamacare, officially known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and for providing tax breaks to the wealthy.

Social media users shared a photo of the stage just before Biden spoke, noting the rather modest crowd size.

The Associated Press (AP) noted that Biden appears to be seizing on the opportunity to gain ground in Pennsylvania, a swing state, while Trump is stuck in the courthouse for his trial in New York this week.

“When I look at the economy, I don’t look at it through the eyes of Mar-a-Lago. I look at it through the eyes of Scranton,” referring to Trump’s large estate, which is over $1 billion according to some and $18 million according to Judge Arthur Engoron.

Scranton values or Mar-a-Lago values,” Biden said. “These are the competing visions for our economy that raise questions of fundamental fairness at the heart of this campaign.”
