Chinese safety regulators have ordered Tesla to recall 1.1 million vehicles because drivers might step on the accelerator for too long, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), beginning May 29, the auto company will recall 1,104,622 cars manufactured between Jan. 12, 2019, and April 24, 2023. Fixable with a software update transmitted wirelessly to the cars, the company cited safety issues with both braking and acceleration.
The acceleration and braking glitches result in increased probability of drivers “mistakenly stepping on the accelerator pedal” for elongated periods of time, which in turn, may increase the risk of collision, posing a “safety hazard,” according to details obtained from SAMR.
The Tesla models which are being recalled include imported Model 3, Model S, Model X and Chinese-manufactured Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.
Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. And Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will inform affected car owners to coordinate recall and repair, according to SAMR.
