Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the support of enough Democratic Party delegates to become the party’s presumptive presidential nominee ahead of the convention next month. The party’s rapid coalescing around Harris comes after a surge in fundraising and high-profile endorsements for the vice president following President Joe Biden ending his reelection bid— despite the fact that Harris has not earned a single vote in a Democratic primary election.

According to an unofficial delegate survey conducted by the Associated Press, Harris has the support of 2,688 delegates, far surpassing the 1,976 needed to secure the nomination. Just 54 delegates remain undecided.

However, as the AP notes, the delegates are not formally bound to Harris and are still free to vote for the candidate of their choosing at the Democratic National Convention in August.
