According to statements from reporters on-scene, the president and first lady were leaving a dinner at the Biden campaign’s office in Wilmington, Delaware when a silver sedan with Delaware plates hit an agency SUV blocking off a nearby intersection.

Moments before the crash, Biden waved to members of the press as a woman called out to ask about his declining poll numbers.

“They’re the wrong polls,” Biden shouted back seconds before the collision.

As Secret Service agents bundled the visibly confused president into his armored SUV, other law enforcement personnel surrounded the sedan with weapons drawn.

President Biden and the first lady departed without further incident.

Secret Service spokesman Steve Kopek said that “there was no protective interest associated with this event and the President’s motorcade departed without incident.”

It is not immediately clear what led to the collision, but local law enforcement has been assigned to the investigation, indicating that the crash was likely unintentional and there is no further threat to the president at this time.

Update:

On Monday morning, Delaware police announced that the suspect involved in the crash has been identified as 46-year-old James Cooper. The collision has officially been ruled an accident and Cooper has been charged with driving under the influence.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
