Artificial Intelligence dating app CEO predicts that most will have a virtual companion in the next five to 10 years. Eugenia Kuyda, creator of Replika, an AI dating app that already has millions of users, claims that AI companion bots will be commonplace in the majority of people’s lives.

A game-changing industry, Kuyda believes almost everyone will eventually be in a human-AI relationship to schedule their routines with.

“I think it’s the next big platform. I think it is going to be bigger than any other platform before that. I think it’s going to be basically whatever the iPhone is for you right now.”

Kuyda claims the technology still needs time and space to develop, but she projects that individuals around the planet will utilize chatbots that do everything from being a traveling companion to lending a virtual ear for intimate secrets.

It’s a “dream product,” Kuyda said, adding that her vision was to create a world “where I can walk to a coffee shop and Replika can walk next to me and I can look at her through my glasses or device. That’s the point. Ubiquitous.” Users can even personalize their own AI chatbots with specific names, outfits, and hairstyles.

Kuyda’s idea of Replika began after the death of her close friend. The developer used her expertise to take old text message conversations with her friend and build a chatbot that would allow her to reconnect. While people have various motives for using Replika, one reason is common—a desire for companionship.
