Kansas City Chiefs superfan Xavier Babudar, known for his iconic wolf-suit-wearing alter-ego “Chiefsaholic,” pled guilty to federal charges related to a string of bank robberies across seven different states.

Kansas City Chiefs superfan Xavier Babudar, the wolf-suit-wearing “Chiefsaholic,” pled guilty to a string of 11 bank robberies across seven states in 2022.

Appearing before a federal court on Wednesday, Babudar, 29, entered a guilty plea on one count of money laundering, one count of bank robbery, and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines. In a crime spree that spanned from California to Tennessee, the football fanatic robbed at least 11 banks, making off with more than $800,000. He then laundered the stolen cash at multiple casinos to conceal his ill-gotten gains.

“His violent crime spree across the Midwest and beyond traumatized bank employees and victimized financial institutions in seven states,” said a statement from US Attorney Teresa Moore. “The defendant tried to conceal hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen cash by using it to gamble online and at casinos, but the odds caught up with him. With [Wednesday’s] conviction, he will be held accountable for the full scope of his criminal conduct, including his attempt to flee from justice.”

Police first arrested Babudar for the robbery spree in December 2022, but he was released on bond the following February. Once out of jail, the “Chiefsaholic” cashed in two preseason bets (one on quarterback Patrick Mahomes becoming MVP in 2022, one on the Chiefs beating the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII) and netted $100,000.

He then cut his ankle monitor and fled to the West Coast, where he evaded law enforcement for four months. During that time, he robbed two more banks. He was eventually caught in July 2023.

Babudar is now facing up to 50 years in federal prison and a fine of $532,675. His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 10th.
