What comes to your mind when you think of Super Bowl Sunday? Football? Family? Beer? Patriotism? How about Jesus Christ? Audiences around the world can expect a pair of ads promoting Jesus amidst notorious excitement around some of the most expensive but entertaining commercials in American advertising.

Notably religious craft store, Hobby Lobby, alongside Christian groups and anonymous donors have invested in a $20 million advertising campaign titled ‘He Gets Us.’ The group of donors hope to reach as many people as possible, helping spread the message of Jesus, the Son of God. Campaign spokesperson Jason Vanderground told the Associated Press, “We’re trying to get the message across to people who are spiritually open but skeptical.”

The ads being aired on Super Bowl Sunday are just two of over a dozen commercials created – each displaying an array of photos with a different theme and story line. The two story lines airing on Sunday will focus on how children embody and demonstrate Jesus’ love and how to mold yourself into a better person by dealing with anger.

Vanguard continues, “We think Jesus is a big deal and we want to make a big deal out of it,” Vanderground said. “What better way to do that than to put him in the biggest cultural moment that we have the entire year?”

The Super Bowl is one if not the most viewed television program annually in the United States. With investors planning on spending $2 billion over the next several years for the campaign, they found the perfect opportunity to reach more audience members outside of their direct viewers.

With the steady and concerning decline of Christianity in the United States, positive and loving commercials like these will hopefully bring a glimmer of hope back into the heartbeat of America.
