Celebrated two-time Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman was found dead at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog, police confirmed on Thursday.

Hackman, aged 95, and his wife, aged 63, were discovered during a welfare check the previous day, with no immediate signs of foul play, though investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death.

“Foul play is not suspected as a factor in those deaths at this time, however exact cause of death has not been determined,” the Santa Fe sheriff’s office said. “This is an active and ongoing investigation.”

Hackman was renowned for his roles in ‘The French Connection’ and ‘Unforgiven’, and also had a passion for home renovation, having transformed properties in various locations.

Tributes have flowed from Hollywood and beyond, with many remembering Hackman’s profound impact on cinema.

In his later years, Hackman retired from acting and pursued a successful career as a novelist, enjoying the solitude and creative control writing offered him.

His passing marks the end of a diverse and influential career spanning over four decades.
