Rock band the Foo Fighters publicly condemned the unauthorized use of their 1997 hit song “My Hero” at a Friday Trump rally in Arizona, during which former President Donald Trump played the track while welcoming Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the stage.

The band clarified on social media and through official statements that they were not asked for permission to use the song, nor would they have granted it.

However, the Trump campaign has presented documents suggesting that they received a license for the song’s use from BMI’s Songview service, which holds the usage rights.

A representative for the Foo Fighters announced that “any royalties received as a result of this use will be donated” to the Harris/Walz campaign. The band is also reportedly taking “appropriate actions” against Trump’s campaign.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of musicians opposing the use of their music at Trump events, with other artists like Beyoncé also taking legal action or contributing their work directly to the Harris campaign.
