Elon Musk said he was stepping back from politics. Then he quietly became the biggest known donor of the 2026 midterms.
Between July and September, Musk gave $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC backing Republican Senate candidates and one of the largest known political donations in American history. The group has since put well over $100 million into Texas, where Ken Paxton is in a tight Senate race against Democrat James Talarico. Musk also gave $10 million directly to a pro-Paxton PAC and more than $76 million to his own America PAC. In total, he’s put $276 million behind Republicans since July, months after saying he’d gotten “carried away” with politics.
