In case you missed it, former NBA star Dwyane Wade watched Sunday’s night game as the Miami Heat took their victory against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden in New York City. As Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union began exiting the premises, fans shouted out in disagreement over his transgender daughter, Zaya.

Some sports fans gathered outside the arena and began booing the former shooting guard, some yelling, “You mutilated your son,” at Wade in reference to Zaya.

The 15-year-old came out as transgender when he was 12 years old and has since been an LGBTQ+ advocate, aiming to inspire other teens to “live by their truth.”

According to RadarOnline, Wade stated back in February that “Zaya has identified as Zaya since she was twelve years old, and she now wants to legally and officially change her name and gender to conform with how she identifies.”

Fans of the retired basketball player have shared their disappointments with his support towards Zaya’s transition, claiming that this route of fame is another cash cow for the family. Rather than dissect Zaya’s potential gender dysphoria, Wade’s immediate support towards their child transitioning at such a young age upsets fans as well as Zaya’s mother.

Zaya Wade, whose birth name is Zion Malachi Airamis Wade, officially changed her name last November after a petition was filed last August. Zaya’s mother filed against the petition made by Wade, claiming that their child was put under financial pressure to make the decision and fully commit.
