DJI surprised tech enthusiasts by unveiling the Osmo Action 4, an upgraded version of its Osmo Action 3, just under a year after its initial launch.

The major improvement in the Osmo Action 4 lies in its camera capabilities, particularly its performance in low-light conditions. This latest model now boasts a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor – the same sensor used in the Mavic 3 Pro, Mini 3 Pro, and Air 3 drones.

Visually, the Action 4 retains the design of the previous model, with a record button positioned on top and the power button on the side. The battery compartment and micro-SD slot are located on the right side, while the USB-C port is on the left when viewed from the front.

The Action 4’s battery remains the same as before, providing 1770 mWh and 150 minutes of recording time but the charging time has reduced to just 18 minutes for 80 percent capacity. It’s worth noting that the Action 4 does not have internal storage and requires a microSD card for data storage.

DJI integrated a magnetic locking system from the previous model, eliminating the need for a separate case to attach accessories. In addition to supporting GoPro-compatible mounts, DJI now offers several of its own accessories, such as:

  • The chest strap mount, helmet chin mount, 60m waterproof case, bike seat rail mount, neck mount, mini handlebar mount, the Osmo Action 360° Wrist Strap, and a new wrist-worn remote control.

The Action 4 has an increased waterproof depth of 18m (59 feet), and by using the waterproof case, it can go even deeper, reaching up to 60m (208 feet).

Audio recording capabilities have been enhanced, with three microphones and advanced wind noise reduction software, delivering impressive sound quality for a compact device.

For users to access the Action 4’s features, activation through DJI’s smartphone app is necessary. However, potential buyers should keep in mind that this step might cause delays if they have immediate deadlines. The app offers convenient functionalities, including viewing and transferring footage and the ability to livestream via WiFi.

The price has gone up considerably over the $329 Action 3, though — it’s now available for $399. That makes it a tough sell against the GoPro Hero 11, which now carries the same price.

With the introduction of the Osmo Action 4, DJI continues to impress action camera enthusiasts with its innovative features and upgrades, maintaining its position as a key player in the market.
