Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed on Sunday that she has accepted President Joe Biden’s endorsement to replace him as the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2024 election, immediately rallying prominent party members behind her new campaign. In the hours since Biden’s announcement, Harris has reportedly raised nearly $50 million and secured the endorsements of high-profile Democrat lawmakers and megadonors—although some notable exceptions have withheld their support.

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country,” Harris said in a statement. “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”

“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” she continued (though Trump has repeatedly disavowed any affiliation with Project 2025).

According to leading Democrat fundraising site ActBlue, the newly-minted Harris 2024 campaign pulled in just under $50 million from small-dollar donors mere hours after she accepted Biden’s endorsement.

“As of 9 p.m. ET, grassroots supporters have raised $46.7 million through ActBlue following Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launch,” ActBlue said on Sunday night. “This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle. Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election.”

In light of Biden’s support for his vice president, other members of the party have quickly fallen in line behind Harris’ candidacy. These individuals include:

  • Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren

  • California Governor Gavin Newsom

  • South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn

  • New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

  • Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar

  • Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley

  • LinkedIn Founder and DNC megadonor Reid Hoffman

  • Open Society Foundation Chairman Alex Soros

However, many other leading Democrats have withheld their endorsements, including former President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
