When asked which story felt the most dangerous, Nick Shirley immediately points to communist‑controlled Cuba, saying it was “pretty scary” and “very bad” to investigate on the ground.

He’s since said he was almost taken hostage in Cuba while filming his documentary, and explains that trips like that now require private security teams, where three days in a place like Cuba can burn tens of thousands of dollars just to keep him alive while he exposes the regime.
