It’s Cristiano Ronaldo. There’s no room for debate or argument if you judge strictly by paydays. The soccer star is reportedly set to sign with the Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr after he leaves Manchester United, and he will be royally compensated.
The deal is worth nearly half a billion dollars to play for 2.5 seasons. He’ll make north of $200 million in base pay, and his bonuses will add millions more if the deal gets done.
Ronaldo made waves when it was mutually decided that he would leave his European team a few weeks ago. The soccer icon had struggled with MU in the Premier League this season, starting in just four of their ten games, which seems preposterous for someone of his caliber. He only scored one goal with no assists in league play.
There’s no question he’s one of the greatest ever, and we’ll find out how much he has left in the tank at the age of 37. He’s helped his teams win five Champions League titles and has been a global superstar for two decades.
Now he’s playing for Portugal in the World Cup in Qatar and leads his team into a matchup with Switzerland on Wednesday.
