Charles Barkley is a national treasure, one of the funniest personalities on television, and someone who is an essential employee in the wacky wokey world we all live in now.
But Sir Charles said this week that he is not having as much fun on NBA on TNT as he has in the past, and the culprits are the usual suspects who are trying to remove fun from any institution they can get their hands on: the politically correct crowd.
Barkley appeared on a Washington D.C. sports talk show called “Grant and Danny” this week and put cancel culture on blast.
Barkley said things are so bad in the television world he works in now that he is literally counting down the days until he retires.
”I’m trying to hang on for another couple years until I’m 60 and then they can kiss my ass. Because I’m only working until 60. I’ve already told them that. I’m not working until the day I die. That’s just stupid. And if I don’t have enough money by now I’m an idiot anyway, so they should fire me anyway.”
The reason for Barkley’s shift from fun-loving hoops commentator to cautious and calculated analyst just trying to survive every show is because he literally fears being caught up in the woke mob running amok. “That’s all we ever talk about behind the scenes now, like, be careful of going in this direction. I’m like, yo man, we can’t even have fun anymore. We’ve had fun all these years and now all of a sudden in the last year and half everybody is trying to get everybody fired and it really sucks.”
Barkley even called out some of his bosses at Turner Sports, who live in fear of the loud minority of fans who can’t wait to destroy the career of anyone not living up to their delusional expectations.
“They’re coming for your head, and a lot of our bosses are cowards. I said, ‘Context matters.’ They’re like, ‘Context doesn’t matter.’ I said, ‘That’s total b.s. Context always has to matter.’ But now, if you crack a joke the wrong way, they’re like, ‘Oh, no, no, no, no. You crossed a line.’”
Could you imagine a television executive so stupid and inept that he would actually consider getting rid of Charles Barkley? It would be awesome if they didn’t exist, but they are the people running the industry now, so enjoy every minute you can from Barkley because unfortunately, you just never know what can happen these days.
