The Biden administration is advancing a $680 million arms sales package to Israel, which includes thousands of joint direct attack munition kits (JDAM) and hundreds of small-diameter bombs. This decision follows a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, although Israel continues its conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
The arms package has been under consideration for several months and was first previewed to congressional committees in September before undergoing review in October.

This deal comes on the heels of a significant $20 billion arms sale to Israel approved in August 2023. Progressive senators attempted to block the sale due to concerns over human rights violations in Gaza, but the legislation was unsuccessful.
President Biden has maintained strong support for Israel amidst ongoing hostilities, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties in Gaza.
